For me, I like things to be short and sweet so 12/13 it is. If a show is really good though then, of course, the longer the better. ;)

I prefer 12/13 format, 24/26 is too long so I tend to drop sometimes.

Especially when a 12/13 episode series ends on a cliffhanger and it's confirmed that the studio shut down. (Not good.) lol

Is rather they do 24 to 26 eps in most cases they rush the 12 to 13 eps and try and squeeze as much as they can in them short eps,24 to 26 they seem to take their take and they don't rush as much,

Yeah, that's true. Pacing seems to be a lot better.

i prefer the shorter cour, since even 20+ episodes series have like filler episodes or episodes that can be safely skip

12/13! it’s so satisfying to finish a completed series within like a day or two! plus fewer episodes makes it easy to start the show, it’s not like a big commitment :’)

I guess it's easier to understand too. Sometimes if a show really drags itself out I forget what happened depending on how interesting it is. :)

True. I guess 12/13 episode series are more of the norm this season too.

Definitely a two-cour (i.e. 24-26 episode) series.

For exactly this reason:

Also, the pacing doesn't feel as rushed.

I feel like a lot of times stuff that doesn't necessarily directly impact the story gets criticized as "filler" when it's actually something that fleshes out the setting and/or characterization.

well it depends if you like character driven story or plot driven story more

i watch anime mainly for the plot lol, character development and interaction is just bonus for me

either can work depending on the anime, so i'm definitely fine with both, just depends on what it's trying to achieve. for example, i don't think the tatami galaxy would've worked nearly as well if it was even a single episode over it's 11 total, and cowboy bebop needed 26 to flesh out the characters to the extent it did

Overall malgraph states that I have watched a lot more of 11/13 episode series but depicts that I favour 24/26 episode ones more.

Based on that I prefer the latter and it probably has more to do with 8 hours being sufficient to flesh out all the necessary components required by the anime,.

As for me, recently I realized how great can be long-running shows without fillers with the length from 50 to 150 episodes like Hunter x Hunter, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Monster and even Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures (if we count all parts as one big show). So I prefer long shows because they it has more time for everything, but for some shows (comedies for example) 12-13 series is very suitable format, IMO.

I usually like it shorter, if the story feels complete in one cour. If it’s one cour, but it’s incomplete and doesn’t have another season, then we have a problem. I’m looking at you Btooom!

Depends on the genre. If it's just simply Romance(Usually Drama is included as well), I prefer 1-cour.

Although, normally, of course I prefer 2-cour.

12-13 episodes are ok for slice of life ,comedy in some cases even for drama and romance.

But when it comes to plot driven series, then I definitely prefer at least 2cour or even better 3 or more.

200, please.
Or at least 50. I think that the longer the show, the more you care for the characters and what happens to them. I don't give a crap about a character dying in a 12 or 24-episodes series.

And most of the 12 or 24-episodes anime series were simply not good/popular enough to get a second season.

I keep on running into series like this! They basically tell one arc of a larger story. For example:
* Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor
* Alderamin on the Sky
* Lord Marksman and Vanadis
* Black Bullet

It's why I say I prefer 2+ cour.

Heavily depends on the type of show and the story that is being told. Some shows would benefit greatly from being a bit longer to give more time to flesh out characters and their motivations/relationships but others could easily be cut in half and tell a tighter version of the same story without pointless filler.

I've not watched many 12 episode shows myself yet but one that could have been greatly improved by being cut in half was Death Note. That show wound me up in so many ways, lol.

depends on the story you are trying to tell.
the problem with most 12 ep shows is that creators are often trying to adapt like 120 chapters of a manga into just 12 episodes and you get a rushed mess...

a show like baccano! on the other hand fits great in 12-14 episodes because the story isnt sooooo masive.

24 episodes gives a lot of longer running adaptations more time to breath, though i have seen shows just waste the extra amount of time with poor animation and stale moments too.

Gonna throw the good ol' ''It depends'' card.

Depends of the story its telling frankly, sometimes 12 - 13 episodes is just enough but sometimes they really need more.

Depends on several things. In seasonal anime I prefer 1-cour series, because that means the seasons don't overlap and I end up watching a million shows at once. If I'm watching older shows I'd say the longer, the better as long as they don't include too many filler episodes.

On the other hand, it all depends on the story being told as well, 1-cour adaptations can often feel a bit rushed, but original shows don't have that feeling as much. Then again 2-cour series can drag on if they aren't handled with care. I guess it just fully depends on the show.

You might have had the opposite viewpoint if you were a few years older and into anime for longer, because of how relative "seasonal" is.

Depends on how much source material is being adapted. 2 Volumes, 12 episodes? Great! 5 Volumes, 12 episodes?... 2 Volumes, 24 episodes?... 5 Volumes, 24 episodes? Great!

Also, I'm happy with 24/25 episode seasonal anime more so than 24/25 episode old anime, I feel like I don't have the time or patience to watch an old 24/25 episode old anime anymore, even if I can, as I feel like I can watch two 12 episodes anime instead.

On one hand, 12 episodes is the usual extent of my attention span for anime, so I'd rather a show just get to the point and keep me engaged with set pieces. But on the other hand, a show that's 26 episodes long within a season feels less shallow by comparison.

It depends on the anime and how the story is written. Some anime are good enough with 12 episodes, if the characters don't need a lot of development and the story is not convoluted. Then there's anime that are +20 Eps that feel too long and most episodes fill like filler.

well, objectively I’d say 24 eps is better on average. You can develop the story and characters more. But for me and my ADHD brain 12 episodes are waay easier to watch and I am more likely to commit to the anime. so I personally like 12 episode shows. and tbh I have seen many two cour shows with bad pacing as well, like half of the show is just beach episodes or “battle of the week” kind of stuff and then the actual plot is still rushed. The characters and setting are usually more developed than in a 12 eps show though

Actually it can go either way depending on it's focus. If the show is a slice of life, then 1 cour is preferable. If the show is within the action or sports genre, then 2 cour is good.

It's a sad sign of the times that these two are the only options given.

According to MALGraph 50-100 episode long shows have the highest average score on my list and that harmonizes with my own perception of liking longer stories as well.

I prefer shit that’s hundreds of episodes long and full of excessive character development and plot twists like bleach or naruto. (That wasn’t sarcasm)

But I enjoy any anime regardless of length if it peaks my interests. I will say though if I enjoy a short anime like 12, or sometimes even 20some episodes long, it often leaves me wanting more.

Yeah the scores for longer and shorter series are all over the place in your graph without any real pattern emerging. In comparison, mine just goes straight up the longer they are, only after 100+ eps it goes down again. But with a difference of 1.7 points between my average 1-cour score and my average 50-100 ep score, my preferences are much more obvious.

But I always found that to be one of the most interesting statistics on MALGraph.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well, although i kinda like how easy it is to watch and finish an anime with only 11-13 episodes, i will have to go with 24-26, ideally even more than that, since if i really like the characters i want to spend as much time with them as possible, even 50 episodes was not enough for me in Tegamibachi's case, hell, even 116 and 203 episodes in D.Gray-man's and Katekyo Hitman Reborn's case respectively, so the more the merrier! It also helps the plot be better paced and not a rush job, and fleshing out the setting and characters more is a great bonus as well!
*crosses fingers and hopes Bungo Stray Dogs 3d season will have at least 25 episodes* XD

I don't mind any tbh both 24 episode series and 12/13 episode series are good. It usually depends on how much of the source material is being adapted into an anime. The good thing about 12/13 episode series is that it can be finished in a day which is always good.

I prefer 24-26 episodes as it allows the story to take it's time and make sure nothing is too rushed. If the show only needs 12-13 episodes to complete though I'm all for it to not put in filler and cram a lot of chapters into few episodes.
